The Superior, a wooden sidewheeler, 184 ft., 646 gt., was driven against a reef October 30, 1856 at Pictured Rocks in a harrowing accident which claimed about 40 passengers’ lives. The wreck lies in 10 to 15 ft. of water and is broken up. Her ribs and spine are sometimes covered by sand, but her boilers are present.
