Brule River Whitewater Kayaking
Brule River Whitewater Kayaking
Brule River, MN
Keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The Brule is one of them. The Sauna Bath Rapid to Highway 61 section of Brule River in Cook County is 6 miles long and is a class II-IV+(V) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The Brule roars through one big, distinctive rapid after another as it races toward the big lake. Big drops don’t give you much notice. The take-out to portage Devil’s Kettle is really tricky, and the penalty for screwing up is severe – maybe fatal since side-by-side waterfalls send half of a river on its merry way to Lake Superior, while the other half, no one’s been able to figure out where it goes.
