Located on an island accessible in the summer by ferry, Big Bay Town Park offers a true vacation escape. Madeline Island may be small but it offers a big welcome to tourists who travel to Wisconsin for the striking views of Lake Superior, the wealth of outdoor activities and the friendly community atmosphere. To accommodate its guests, the island has an airport with a 3,000-foot paved landing strip, restaurants and bars, a golf course, bicycle, moped, kayak and canoe rental, and full marina services including charter boats.

Big Bay Town Park, six miles from the ferry dock, boasts a sand beach, picnic area, camping for tents and RVs and a bridge spanning the gorgeous Big Bay Lagoon. Visitors enjoy fishing, biking and swimming. Give into the lure of the water and rent a kayak or canoe from the park. Gaze at a stunning sunset while snacking on a s’more toasted over one of the park’s firepits. The park offers three sets of flush toilets, a pit toilet and potable water. There are pay shower facilities at the park.

Directions

Find your way to Bayfield, Wisconsin on Highway 13. Follow the directions to the Ferry landing. When disembarking the ferry, turn left on County Highway H, stay on the blacktop and follow the signs to Big Bay Town Park. The park is located 7 miles from the ferry landing.
