Gooseberry River

Gooseberry River

Gooseberry Falls State Park, MN

This is a fun river to fish for larger fish, to include steelhead and kamloops. In the early spring you will find Kamloops and some Steelhead in the pool just after the falls, which may be the easiest place, and most contained area to fish for them along the North Shore. In the early spring, camp up the hill in the park and have the place to yourself. Further up the river where it runs along the Superior Hiking Trail you’ll find nice sized trout and have a great time wading the stream later in the season.

A great source of information, if you are a fly fisherman and looking for big fish on the MN North Shore, is the Minnesota Steelheader website.
