Swedetown Recreation Area has 1,900 acres designated by Calumet Township and the North Houghton County Water Authority for enjoyment of the outdoors. Calumet’s landmark water towers oversee the trails.
- 30 kilometers (20 miles) of trails groomed seven days a week for skating and classic skiing. Plenty of intermediate trails as well as more challenging options. Three trailheads with plowed parking including Chalet with wax area, drinking water, restrooms. The upstairs skier lounge with snackbar is open seven days a week, stop in!
- There are 6K of back country trails designated for classic skiing only. Two marked snowshoe trails totaling 10K with great scenic views.
- Fat Tuesdays – Snowbikes are allowed on all trails on Tuesdays starting at 5 p.m. Bikes yield to skiers.
- Swedetown Recreation Area has a large groomed sledding hill provides winter fun for all ages. Lights are on every night until 8 p.m., so come on out and enjoy. The chalet is open for warming up seven days a week; see the posted hours at the hill. There is no fee for sledding but donations for grooming and lights are appreciated. Many groups enjoy a sledding party during our snowy winter season.
Starting at the Woodland Road trailhead are 2 miles of multi-use trails where dogs are allowed. Walking, snowshoeing and snowbiking are also allowed at any time on these trails.
